Tip of the Month

netTrekker congratulates the following districts on reaching an exciting milestone of 1 million netTrekker page views this year*. To honor this achievement, each district will receive a special plaque to commemorate this milestone.

  • 2.3 M Ysleta ISD, TX
  • 1.5 M Orange County Public Schools, FL
  • 1.5 M Fort Bend ISD, TX
  • 1.0 M Houston ISD, TX

Even though each district takes a different approach to promoting netTrekker, we have found three common factors that contribute to their success: training, communication and ongoing support and monitoring.

Training
All four districts utilized netTrekker's professional development for their initial training. Training was customized for each district's individual needs, and ranged from 1-4 days of hands-on training with teachers and librarians or with a train-the-trainer model. Fort Bend includes netTrekker training in their new teacher orientation. As part of Ysleta’s ongoing training, they hosted district-wide netTrekker Days this spring to promote the use of netTrekker and to demonstrate netTrekker applications for classroom use. Cathy Chavez, Instructional Technology Trainer, said, “It was a huge success! After netTrekker Days, usage for April was twice the usage of some months.” This rings true with our figures that show district usage increases an average of 97% with professional development.

Communication
Communication to staff, students, and parents was a critical component for each of these districts. They promote netTrekker at all staff meetings and leadership forums whether it's in the classroom, with principals, curriculum staff or media specialists. Houston promotes netTrekker with posters in classrooms and libraries, a PowerPoint presentation for teachers, and a bookmark in English and Spanish for every student to encourage home use of all their databases. In addition, these districts are enthusiastic supporters of netTrekker and provide feedback to us on how they’re using netTrekker, and how we can enhance the product to further enhance education for their students.

Ongoing Support and Monitoring
These high-usage districts have strong leadership that supports the value of technology-based educational resources. By monitoring school and district usage through the usage statistics available in netTrekker, they are able to identify when a school is not actively using netTrekker, and can provide the resources to help increase the use of netTrekker in the classroom.

We have highlighted just a few of the major factors that contribute to each district's success. We will be including other success stories in future newsletters and we hope to highlight even more districts next year that reach the 1 million mark!
