We included an article in the last newsletter titled "Should Technology Be a Core Subject?" You overwhelming responded that technology should be equal with core subjects. Actual results were:

Technology should be:
63% Equal with core subjects
29% Less than core, more than electives
6% Equal to Electives
0% Less than Electives
2% Not important at all

Several comments:
“We teach tech skills as part of other subject assignments, much like a Math teacher might teach how to use a calculator in order to complete an assignment.”

“Equal [with core subjects] but NOT separate. Technology is a tool; tech skills are most meaningfully acquired during integration activities exploring other topics."”

“Technology skills should be taught just like writing and reading. We don't have separate classes on how to use a pencil, so INTEGRATION, not separation is the key.”
Student Use
Students from West Monroe High School, including new students that transferred after Katrina, are thanking their innovative teachers for providing their netTrekker d.i. subscription this year. The teachers worked several nights at a local pizza parlor to earn a percentage of the profits to pay for technology resources including netTrekker d.i.. “It's really neat that our teachers worked after school at Johnny's Pizza so that we could continue with netTrekker d.i.. I find websites in netTrekker d.i. that I use to get better grades.”
