Ancient Greece Comes Alive
Mr. Granito's 7th grade class was able to make Ancient Greece come alive by using today's technology tools. Students were asked to choose one ancient Greek figure to portray in a 3-5 minute podcast and to create a four-sectioned newspaper article.
Using Mr. Granito's Tic-Tac-Toe board, newspaper template and rubrics, students spent three days utilizing netTrekker d.i. to research Greek history. They were then exposed to various technology-based software programs such as Audacity, Microsoft Office templates, and file conversions in order to complete their podcasts and newspaper articles.
What an exciting time for education! On February 17th, President Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The historic law provides over $100 billion for education. Education Secretary, Arne Duncan has emphasized the urgency of getting the funds to states and districts as quickly as possible. Part of the money is being provided to turn around failing schools and implement innovative new learning models. Schools will now have funding to create and enhance current 21st century classrooms. Because netTrekker d.i. is student-centered, standards aligned and provides multiple paths to learning while delivering digital content to support differentiated instruction, it's an effective tool for teachers to quickly and easily use as they embrace these new learning models.

"My students and I enjoy using netTrekker d.i. because it is the fastest, safest, easiest way to pinpoint accurate information on the Internet whether at school or at home. Students like the fact that the sites have already been visited by other teachers, and there are not a lot of outdated, broken links."
"As a teacher, I also know that I can personalize any assignment by either using websites already included, or by adding my own. I take advantage of this in every class, and can change my lists with ease depending on the needs of the students. Searching with netTrekker d.i. has given me greater peace of mind as well as given me the ability to unleash more of my students' creativity."
